Imitation of Kafka
I awoke one morning in early November to the sound of a woodcutter's axe. My neighbor entered the room carrying a young child.
"Will this noise ever stop?" He asked. I ignored the curt expression on his face and put on my slippers.
"Twice already this month," He continued, but by the time I had put on my robe he was already gone. I led the child out of my room, closed the door, and went back to sleep.
